Imagine this: You're traveling in your RV, Motorhome or Camper and you find yourself either in a remote location that makes you feel unsafe, or perhaps you're at a campground and will be away for several hours and have pets that may require attention while you're out.

In any of the situations above, what is the best thing to do?

Lock Your Doors

Locking your doors is an important safety rule that shouldn't be taken lightly. Whether you're in your rig, away or out on the road can ensure that you don't encounter any safety issues such as unwanted guests or the possibility of missing your valuables when you return.

When you purchase your RV, Motorhome or Camper, they normally provide you with several keys to not only your doors, but many of the keys will also fit your storage areas with one single key. Although your storage areas are also important to key under lock and key, our recommendations are to focus on your door locks.

Many RV sellers have master keys for the equipment they sell, and although this can be a lifesaver if you're local to your RV seller in case of lockout, it's not the more practical or safe to have someone that that is unknown to you with access to keys to your home away from home. Because you don't always know who has a copy of your key, it's always good to take an extra step and replace your locks with devices that are under your control.

Recommendation: Purchase new locks and replace the factory models on your rig. These locks are a deterrent and with any lock, such as your home, your lock is only as good as the equipment you purchase and your door. Most of the locks of today are key based, but many newer models have the ability to use a key, combination panel or even key-fobs (induction keys) that can be attached to the same keychain as your car keys.
